NEW Most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – VSC Will Respond to All of Them

At Vancouver Sewing Classes (VSC), we receive over a hundred questions each week, and we attempt to answer all of them. For complicated questions, or if you want to know the cost and program duration of any specific Fashion Design Long Program, we strongly encourage you to contact us through email at https://sewingclassesvancouver.ca/contact/ to arrange a meeting in-person with one of our instructors. We would be happy to spend time with you to answer all of your questions at our fashion design facility. Since we have so many lessons to teach throughout the day, we will not be able to answer all of your questions over the telephone. Please contact us through our email for an in-person consultation.

Please carefully read and review all of the relevant information on our website before you contact us, so you can make a well-informed decision. Otherwise, you are wasting your own time by asking the same questions that we have repeatedly answered on our website, blogs, and Facebook page. We believe that we are much more open and transparent than any other fashion design school or sewing studio.

From time to time, we do have clients, who had requested an in-person consultation appointment far in advance, not show up, without emailing or calling us, on the day of the scheduled appointment, effectively ghosting us. This is not acceptable and unprofessional. If someone treats us that way, we will not work with that person again. Our time is just as precious as your time.

And, finally, we do have people ask us for industry contacts without enrolling in one of our programs. Unfortunately, our industry and supplier contacts are reserved only for our paying clients. We have spent many years and a lot of time and money building our network of contacts all over the world, and we simply cannot provide that information to anyone if they are not a paying client of ours. In addition, please do not ask for a discount on any of our programs because, if you are looking for an inexpensive, lower quality program and you don’t care about what and how you learn, we are not the right fit for you. At VSC you get exactly what you pay for, which is a high-quality education and practical life skills training.

Fashion Design Schools Are Teaching Fashion Business and Merchandising NOT Fashion Design

Today, all fashion schools are teaching fashion business and merchandising NOT fashion design. The truth is that many of these fashion institutions are actively misleading their students. Unfortunately, many people who apply to these design schools can’t seem to see through the lies and the deception behind these fashion institutions. If you do analyze these school fashion design programs carefully, you will see that many of their courses and programs focus heavily on fashion marketing and merchandising, rather than actual technical fashion design skills training.

Learning One-on-One Versus Group Lessons

Vancouver Sewing Classes (VSC) has been teaching “one-on-one” since 2011, but now every sewing studio and fashion institution is copying VSC. Unfortunately for them, they are failing miserably trying to replicate our success. It is very misleading and deceptive when a sewing studio or fashion institution advertises and claims that it is teaching “one-on-one”, when they have packed a class full of students (6 to 30 people in one room) with only one instructor looking after the entire class. This is why people get scammed every day, without even knowing it. At VSC, our instructor only teaches one client per class (NOT 6 to 30 students in a room) and per lesson. There is nothing to compare to learning one-on-one. You learn a lot more and at your own pace. When you are learning in a group environment, quite often you will be waiting around a lot and be ignored. You learn a lot less and you most likely will not get a chance to complete your project on your own terms because you simply run out of time. The quality of your education will be quite disappointing and, as a result, you waste your own time, money and resources. Learning one-on-one is the best and the most effective way of learning, if you truly care about what you learn. Obviously, you want the best practical results for your hard-earned money and investment.

At VSC, you get what you pay for, which is quality and a guarantee of impressive results. We offer flexible schedules and a positive learning environment, so our clients can excel in their technical skills training and gain real practical experience. In a group session, there are so many distractions, disruptions, chaos, and dramas that it takes all the fun and excitement out of learning a new life skill.

One Teaching Model Does Not Work for Everyone in Sewing or Fashion Design

Shockingly, all fashion schools and sewing studios are using ONE teaching model and formula for ALL of their students. At VSC, we customize all lessons, prepare a study program, and adapt our teaching techniques for each client, individually, because we know that everyone learns at a different pace, level, and comprehension. You cannot use “one teaching model” for everybody; it simply does NOT work. This is the main reason why VSC only teaches one-on-one. We do not teach any group lessons because that method of teaching does not work when you put a group of people together in one classroom. Our instructors are constantly evolving our teaching methods and models to meet each of our individual client’s needs and expectations. When you enroll in any of our programs at VSC, we will make sure your dreams come true. We will also deliver instant results, without wasting any of your time or money.

Why Fashion Design is a Great Career Choice If Your Heart and Mind is on the Same Page

Quite often, I get asked why did I choose fashion design as my occupation? Well, I chose this career out of passion and practicality. This career has allowed me to travel to countless cities and countries all around the globe to do all of my sourcing, collecting ideas and building rapport with all my industry contacts. However, the best part of my job is meeting great people and making new friends that support my business and success.

I truly believe that when you choose fashion design as a profession, you must always remind yourself that your heart and mind must be on the same page; otherwise, you are in the wrong industry. Mentally, you must be serious, committed, disciplined and know what your priorities are. As for your heart, you have to love the art of making clothes and sewing.

PRACTICE is the ONLY Way to Learn Most Effectively and Successfully!

Many people wonder why they don’t improve in their sewing skills, simply because they don’t spend enough time practicing on their sewing machine at home. Learning to sew, pattern draft, French drape, grade, illustrate or do anything related to fashion design is never an easy task if you don’t prioritize and dedicate the time to practice on your own time. In fact, most fashion design students from all of these fashion design institutions don’t practice enough OR they don’t practice at all during their 1 to 4 years in school, which is why these graduates fail miserably in their technical skills. These fashion institutions focus 90% on theory and 10% on technical skills, which is why many of their graduates cannot sew, draft, or grade patterns. At Vancouver Sewing Classes (VSC), we spend not 100% but, rather, 200% on technical skills training, to ensure that our clients have a solid foundation in industrial sewing, pattern drafting, French draping, pattern grading and preparing professional, detailed Tech Packs. It is extremely valuable and empowering when you practice and master all of the fashion design technical skills that ensure that you will have a long-lasting career in the fashion industry.

You Can’t Mimic Fashion Illustration If You are a Fashion Illustrator Professor/Teacher

When it comes to learning how to draw in fashion illustration, you need to learn professionally from a real professional fashion illustrator. There are so many fashion illustrator professors/teachers out there who are just mimicking and bluffing rather than teaching you how to draw professionally. If your fashion illustrator professor/teacher cannot draw a detailed head, face, hair, eyes, feet, and hands then they are fake fashion illustrators because they don’t know how to teach you how to draw professionally, which means you are being scammed without even knowing it.

Fashion Design Schools Don’t Teach the Basics Anymore!

If you are investing a lot of your money into your future fashion design career training, you deserve a good education from your fashion design college or university. Quite often, many fashion institutions are not teaching the basics anymore, nor the advanced techniques in sewing, pattern drafting, pattern grading, French draping, Tech Pack and so on. On the contrary, they are teaching their students courses and programs that are NOT relevant to the fashion industry. In fact, these fashion institutions will teach their students a lot of trash courses and a lot of garbage.

Inspiration, Evolution and Motivation are the Formulas for a Successful Fashion Career

Many people think the fashion industry is a tough business to get into, but so is every other business and industry. All industry sectors and businesses are competitive now, no matter what career you choose. Competition is always healthy because it brings the best out in all of us, and it forces us to become more creative and mentally tougher. In fact, competition makes life a lot more interesting. It makes every business more unique and helps some businesses become more immune to any global recession.

Things You Should Know About the Pros and Cons of Enrolling at Any Fashion Design School or Sewing Studio

Many fashion graduates and people who are taking sewing lessons are getting scammed everyday and they just don’t know it because they don’t really take the time to do their homework. Check the facts and conduct research! Sometimes, people receive bad advice from unqualified people who don’t work in the fashion industry, such as high school sewing teachers, high school/college counselors, fashion school admissions directors, friends, relatives, and parents. So having said all that, Vancouver Sewing Classes (VSC) will explain to you the things you should do, when it comes to your fashion design trade skills training and sewing. The more you know, the more money you will save, and the less likely you will be scammed.
