VSC French Draping Skill and Level Rating Categories:

Find your French Draping level by using VSC French Draping rating categories. This is the most accurate French Draping rating system available.

Beginner: The client has zero or some basic skills, knowledge and experience in draping and sewing.

IntermediateThe client has moderate skills, knowledge and experience in draping, pattern drafting and sewing. The client has reasonable knowledge of how to pleat, tuck and ruch in draping. The client can design and drape different cuts, styles, necklines, and shapes, and manipulate darts.

Advance: The client has good skills, knowledge and experience in draping, pattern drafting and sewing. The client has a solid foundation in draping princess style lines, and asymmetrical designs, as well as bias cut designs and styles.

Professional: The client is experienced and is making a professional living from her/his fashion design skills.

Program Title: Creative French Draping Short Program

French Draping Rating Category: Beginner

Program Description: This program will focus on the basic principles of French Draping. The client will learn how to drape muslin fabric by using the pinning, pleating and ruching techniques to create basic designs on a designer’s dress form. The client will drape and design up to seven different basic garments in this program. The client will design, drape, trace, cut and sew their work onto a complete muslin fabric mock-up.

Program Accomplishments: The client will have sufficient skills to drape any simple tops and bottoms. The client will design and drape up to seven basic, complete garments in muslin/actual fabric by the end of the program. The client will receive up to 1,000 pages of French draping textbook notes.

Program Duration: 6 classes (each class is 3 hours)

Cost: $999 plus taxes (includes all textbook notes, white drafting paper, Manila hard paper, muslin fabric, pattern hooks, notions and zippers)

Program Title: The Art of French Draping Short Program

French Draping Rating Category: Beginner OR Intermediate

Program Description: This program will focus more on complex French Draping skills, such as designing and draping a jacket and corset/bustier. The client will learn how to drape muslin fabric to design asymmetrical and bias-cut styles, too. The client will drape and design up to five different garments in this program. The client will design, drape, trace, cut and sew their creation into muslin fabric or an actual fabric mock-up.

Program Accomplishments: The client will learn more advanced draping skills to design and drape complex garments. The client will be able to create up to five complete garments in muslin or in the actual fabric by the end of the program. The client will receive up to 300 pages of French draping textbook notes and techniques.

Program Duration: 6 classes (each class is 3 hours)

Cost: $999 plus taxes (includes textbook notes, white drafting paper, Manila hard paper, muslin fabric, pattern hooks, notions and zippers)

Program Title: The Complete French Draping Long Program

French Draping Rating Category: Beginner OR Intermediate

Program Description: The client will learn every technique of French Draping, from the basic to the most advanced draping methods used by French, Japanese and Italian couturiers. The client will design and drape tops, bottoms, casual dresses, jackets, bias-cut and asymmetrical designs, bustiers/corsets, leggings, leotards, swimsuits, bodysuits, evening wear designs, bridal designs, etc. Clients will learn to ruch, pleat, twist, gather, baste and use pinning techniques in this program to create the perfect garment. The client will also drape sloper/block pattern on a designer’s dress form, as well as create up to 40 muslin prototype mock-ups in this program. The client will also learn all the tricks of the trade, as used by professionals.

Program Accomplishments: The client will be able to design and drape any style of top, bottom, jacket and dress, using various French draping techniques from Europe. The client will drape and create up to ten sets of sloper/block patterns; she/he will design, drape, draft, cut and sew up to 30 complete garments in this program. The client will receive up to 3,000 pages of French Draping notes and formulas.
