The fashion industry offers so many great job opportunities and unlimited income, depending on your skills and experience. Why limit yourself to working at minimum wage when you know you can earn a lot more? Or perhaps you can earn over a $100,000 a year as a business entrepreneur?

Quite frankly, most apparel manufacturers today do not really care much if you have a degree or a diploma. Once you leave your home country to work in another country, your degree or diploma will most likely be given little or no weight because it may not be recognized or honored under that country’s different laws, regulations and jurisdictions. In fact, the most common reaction you will get from the international businesses and garment manufacturers operating in Asia is: “We never heard of your school, so we are going to test your skills and experience right now”.

The bottom line is that nobody in the garment industry cares which school you graduated from. At the end of the day, everybody just wants your life skills and experience. Many reputable companies, such as Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom and Simons, have offered fantastic sewing employment opportunities for our students with great pay and benefits.

VSC is an industrial fashion design facility created to help provide an effective and positive learning environment for our clients to learn a valuable and practical life skill in Fashion Design. VSC is NOT a school; instead, we provide a better, more effective and productive learning environment for a client that wants special One-on-One instructional lessons, as well as a flexible schedule to balance their work/study/play lifestyle. We do not teach group lessons because that has proven time and time again to be ineffective. As a result of insufficient life skills training, many graduates from these fashion institutions are unable to obtain employment in the apparel industry because they are not taught thoroughly or knowledgeably to meet the industry standard in the technical areas of pattern drafting, sewing, French draping, and pattern grading. Everyone comprehends at a different pace, which means if a couple of students are falling behind in their lessons/assignments and stalling the class, the remaining students in the entire classroom will end up learning a lot less in that program. This method of learning is counterproductive, which is undermining the current educational system. At VSC, we believe in spending quality time in One-on-One instructional lessons with each individual client to provide an excellent and effective program in sewing, pattern drafting, French draping and pattern grading. VSC only accepts three new clients each month.

VSC does not sugar coat or use fancy and glossy advertising on TV or in print ads to mislead, or stalk our clients through phone calls and emails, like most typical fashion institutions. One of the biggest disadvantages for students attending universities and colleges today is being stuck in a large classroom, while, at the same time, being taught by instructors who have limited industry experience and knowledge. VSC has been extremely successful all these years because we have a well structured, practical fashion design program with plenty of real substance and backbone.

VSC believes in giving our clients the best in everything, as well as real experience, so each individual can pursue their dreams and goals. We passionately believe in maintaining a high level of technical hands-on learning to meet and surpass international industry standards, which sets us apart from our competitors. We are innovative, unique and creative in all facets of our designs and ideas. VSC is always adopting and using new techniques introduced by the most experienced garment industry experts in Asia to help our clients learn the newest and latest methods to create a professional, flawless garment for the retail market. Our clients are truly happy with the One-on-One lesson format because they prefer quality over quantity in classroom size and composition. There are so many great perks at VSC. VSC includes a lot of unlimited supplies that are normally not included by most fashion institutions. In fact, all schools charge additional fees, on top of tuition costs, for such things as muslin, photocopies, textbooks, drafting paper, Manila paper, zippers, notions, interface, linings, pattern hooks, garment bags, etc., whereas, at VSC, we include a lot of these items at no extra charge. VSC has the best and most knowledgeable fashion instructor in the business (Chris Falcon), who has extensive industry experience locally and internationally. VSC has a wide and vast network of contacts in garment manufacturing in Asia and South East Asia, to help our clients produce their garments at a fraction of the cost of production in North America. Most students in schools are misled to believe that it is better to have their sample garment made in Canada or in the United States at a price of $50-$1,000, when the same garment piece can be made in Asia for US $1.50 to US $75 a piece.

Why use all your life savings and student loans on a university degree or college diploma that can’t give you a real practical life skill to get you a well-paid job in the industry?

Why invest all your eggs into one basket when you can diversify your own portfolio?

Why spend all your hard-earned money on an expensive university degree, when you can actually use a small portion of that money to learn a real practical life skill and use the rest of the funds to invest in your business capital, equity, machinery, inventory, and marketing, so you can create and promote your own company branding and generate unlimited income?

Far too often, you hear countless stories of students graduating with a degree but unable to find employment or earn a decent income. The saddest reality is that, after students finish school with a degree, most of them will likely be saddled with a huge student debt load, which means they won’t be able to start-up their own business or fashion line. These students may have a degree or diploma certificate to flaunt but, in reality, they just can’t get a real job or start a business. These days, even an internship or volunteering at a company often will not get your foot in the door, either. Some companies are exploiting intern grads by assigning them to do tasks that nobody wants to do, such as cleaning the washroom or getting a cup of coffee from Starbucks for their boss and peers. Quite often, interns are treated more like slaves than real professionals because they do not have enough trade skills or experience to perform challenging work. At the end of the day, internships do not always work or help new fashion grads gain valuable experience in the field. Fashion institutions are not doing anything to fix these problems, so, in most cases, many students who are graduating from these schools are now flocking to VSC to relearn the entire set of fashion design life skills.

We have tutored and taught many students, either currently in the program or already graduated, from Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.

Over the years, we have seen a huge spike in the numbers of our clients who graduated from these ‘fine and prestigious’ fashion design colleges and universities coming to VSC to get help learning real fashion design skills in the areas of pattern drafting, industrial sewing, French draping and grading. These students have already invested between $45,000 to upward of $150,000, and now they have to relearn everything from ground zero. Unfortunately, all fashion design institutions these days do not provide students with enough practical hands-on training or equip them with proper tools to help them learn real fashion design life skills. It is hard to believe, in this day and age, that fashion schools are still using domestic sewing machines in their classrooms to teach, when they should be using computerized industrial sewing machines that are being used in the garment manufacturing sector. Many schools are still using quarter-scale and half-scale in pattern drafting classes to save paper, instead of using a full-scale pattern. More shockingly, many schools are not teaching the proper sewing techniques that are currently used in the garment industry; instead, students are being taught domestic home sewing methods. Many fashion institutions are lagging behind in their sewing techniques and technology. The fashion industry is constantly evolving, but many schools are still using old textbooks and formulas from the 1950’s to 1970’s. In addition, there are too many students in regular classrooms that are not getting the help they deserve because the instructor doesn’t have enough time, energy or resources to teach One-on-One. Plus, far too many fashion design institutions are focusing on academic subjects, thesis, theories, Mickey Mouse projects, exams, group presentations, trash courses, etc., that have no use, relevance or practicality in the fashion industry. The fashion institutions are focusing far too little on effective hands-on training. As a result, many of their students are paying a hefty price when they graduate with very few technical skills, or knowledge and experience.

In addition, fashion institutions are misleading their students about Gerber Technology. Most students don’t know that the whole system itself is comparable to the Vancouver Real Estate Market – it is a costly and expensive system to own. Gerber Technology is mainly used in the garment factory to help mass produce garments and only a millionaire can afford it. Why teach Gerber Technology if they know that students cannot afford the Gerber Technology system? Unfortunately, not many garment factories in Canada or the US have the full Gerber Technology system in their facilities because of the high labor cost of doing business in North America. As a result, the majority of Gerber Technology systems are now being used in Asia to cut and reduce labor costs to $3 per employee per day.

The most alarming fact is that most students are paying too much in tuition fees but are not getting real and practical results for their education investment. At VSC, you get real results – just check out our raving reviews on Google and on our homepage web site. We believe in real hands-on life skills training that will give you many great future career and business opportunities in your lifetime. You will spend far less at VSC for your fashion life skills investment.

Why make minimum wage when you can earn somewhere from $19 to $35 per hour, or more than $100,000 as a designer/business entrepreneur? VSC can help you connect with the best garment manufacturers to help you produce your garments at a cost of US $1.50 to US $75 a piece in Asia.
