Many people think the fashion industry is a tough business to get into, but so is every other business and industry. All industry sectors and businesses are competitive now, no matter what career you choose. Competition is always healthy because it brings the best out in all of us, and it forces us to become more creative and mentally tougher. In fact, competition makes life a lot more interesting. It makes every business more unique and helps some businesses become more immune to any global recession.
Success on any level of business and industry relies on many factors; however, I find the best three ways to stay competitive and relevant in this current time is to find inspiration and be creative, keep your business evolving all the time, and, of course, always know what your main motivations are.
Quite often, I travel to search for new inspirations, so I can inject exciting new ideas into my business. Furthermore, I am always growing and evolving my business to keep up and to adapt with the constant changes in market conditions, as well as meeting all of my clients’ needs each year. My main motivation has always been making distinctive, exquisite, functional garments to sell for profit. As a matter of fact, the biggest motivation that has kept me going for the last three decades in the apparel industry is the art of creating practical, quality garments for my clients and, because I love what I do, I am in it for the long haul. In this business, I learned long ago that you need to have a lot of grit to be successful, and, at the same time, I do frequently avoid working with wishy-washy and flakey individuals in the fashion industry who cannot keep their word or promises. Words do matter, but actions speak way louder than words. I have always stayed true to myself. Luckily, in my life, I have attracted many great and wonderful clients, and my small circle of friends and acquaintances who always treat me with the utmost respect and kindness. In this world, you need to pick and choose the right people that support your passion and get rid of all of the people that want to bring you down. Some people love to see other people fail. Whenever I encounter that kind of negativity, I remind myself that “success is the best form of revenge”.
